On Sunday 1st May 2011, 1st Ince and Elton Scouts completed the Sandstone Trail in the form of a Family Hike. We all (Scouts, Leaders, Family even some Cubs!) walked the 7.2 miles from Hampton Heath to Whitchurch which made up the final stage of the Sandstone Trail. Despite the slight breeze, we couldn’t have asked for better weather and the day finished nicely with a BBQ back at the Scout HQ where everyone was invited.

The Sandstone Trail itself is a 55-kilometre (34 miles) long-distance walkers’ path, following sandstone ridges running north–south from Frodsham in Cheshire to Whitchurch just over the Shropshire border. The path was created in 1974 and was extended in the 1990s. Much of the route follows the Mid Cheshire Ridge but in places the trail also passes through the Cheshire Plain, including farmland, woodland and canal towpaths.
